Powering Communities | @Sophie_Power_ on The #SocialRecruiting Show

by | Oct 19, 2019

In communities, lead with generosity.

This week on the show we talked to ‘talented, talent acquisition professional’ and DBR Community Admin, Sophie Power, about the power of communities, the importance of observing social media etiquette and how giving your time for free, can be really rewarding.

Currently, the new Talent Acquisition Lead at Gram Games, Sophie started her recruitment career agency-side where she realised she “liked the candidate side and business partnering more” than the sales side – this prompted her to move in-house where she works primarily with start-ups where she “really enjoys working in as it’s fast-paced”.

On the show, we learn more about how to manage and guide a Slack community such as DBR and Sophie tells us,

“It’s a free community, nobody pays to be there – it’s there to help people, it’s there to help people get better at their jobs, it’s there to help them develop and get their next promotion and it’s there to help educate people to be better in-house and HR professionals so candidates and employees have a better experience as well.”

Sharing is caring

With so many challenges facing the in-house talent acquisition and HR professional, we learn more about how Sophie and the 16 other Admins manage a community of over 4000 people based in the UK, Europe and the USA. She tells us, “the idea of running a community is to make that practice better and it’s something the DBR Admins are really passionate about”.

When we ask Sophie her 3 key tips for being a positive community member she tells us

“Lead with generosity, it’s not all about what you can take, be a decent human being. And remember, when speaking to fellow community members, you might meet them in person one day, so always be respectful.”

If that wasn’t enough, below you’ll hear Sophie talk about:

  • The importance of community rules and etiquette
  • Mentoring opportunities
  • Community trends and topics of discussion for 2019
  • Information source for salaries, benefits and templates
  • Meaningful diversity and inclusion
  • Being an active contributor
