It’s Easier To Fix Mapped Processes

by | Sep 25, 2024

Too busy to create mapped processes?

When talent acquisition is busy filling roles, just thinking about finding time to create a set of mapped out processes and figure out what great looks like can feel overwhelming. With hiring managers breathing down your neck, stepping away might seem like a distant dream.

Plus, mapping it out is only one step; fixing what doesn’t work can mean battling legacy processes, that make little sense but stubbornly remain. But it is harder to change if those involved in the employee journey don’t look at it from end to end and at a distance.

As part of my series of Lives celebrating the launch of Reboot Hiring, I spoke to Kristjan Kristjansson, co-founder of 50Skills, about their technology, which helps HR get the thoughts in their heads out and mapped into an actual process. It is designed to help you escape the overwhelm and map the process.Β

Highlights

Ever opened a virtual whiteboard or perhaps a presentation, and found the blank page intimidating?

Kristjen says blank-page syndrome is common and suggests a few ways to tackle it. Start with what you are doing now. Then, either find examples of best practices and adapt them to your own company, or use 50Skills, which uses AI prompts to help you lay down and adapt the process quickly.

Wanting to ensure best practices can be shared more easily, they plan to make canvases shareable with peers. The best part of that is it’s not just the high-level process that’s visible, you can drill into each step and see, for example, the wording of the emails.

Because I see a lot of TA pros getting involved in pre- and even onboarding to ensure an offered candidate starts, you will hear us discuss how automation can ensure that everything is in place for a smooth transition. But, the employer must know all the steps required during pre- and onboarding so that new employee questions are answered swiftly. Not knowing answers reduces the experience for a new hire and can lead to people questioning their decision, akin to buyer’s remorse. 😳

If that isn’t enough to entice you to listen to our conversation, we also talked about

  • whether it is wise to use AI for CV matching

  • remembering the humans in the hiring process and those who aren’t!

  • the business impact of a poor employee/candidate experience

  • the dream of creating a library of best practices and transparency

  • the critical issue of only mapping core processes (his nurse story 😩)

As for humans being replaced with automation, Kristjen said:

‘If you can explain how something is done in one minute, then it’s easy to teach a machine to do that. Once it becomes more complex than that then it’s a little bit more tricky.’

Phew!
